File Formats

3 advantages of a RAW file:
- higher in dynamic range
- easier to fix
- gives you more control over how the image looks

1 disadvantage of a RAW file:
- uncompressed

3 advantages of a JPEG file:
- small file size
- standard readable format
- sharper

1 disadvantage of a JPEG file:
- lower in dynamic range

1. A RAW file retains all of the data after it is captured by the camera.
2. A RAW file enables a photographer to edit white balance, contrast, highlights, shadows, colors, and saturation after the image has been taken.
3. When deciding to shoot in RAW, a photographer must consider if their camera has the option to shoot in RAW and if it has enough space to store the larger files.
4. An aspiring professional photographer would need to know how to work with RAW files because edited RAW files are much more enhanced than JPEGs.

1. Out of the discussed file formats, I have only used JPEG.
2. In Raster files, the data describes the characteristics of each individual pixel. In Vector files, a geometric description can be made smooth at any desired display size.
